Columbia SC, statewide home sales continue to increase
Home sales continued their months-long improvement record in Columbia, climbing 7.4 percent to 448, compared with February 2011, according to a report from the S.C. Realtors trade group Thursday.
The median price of homes sold in the Midlands and throughout the state rose slightly in February, compared with the same month last year – up 1.8 percent to $136,000 in the Columbia area and up 2.6 percent to $140,000 in South Carolina.
In an indication that consumers are ready to keep the rally going, pending home sales – in which a contract has been signed but the sale has not yet closed – rose 29 percent in Columbia SC in February and 16.9 percent statewide.
Inventory levels also are falling, which means a balanced market is in sight. South Carolina had an 11.7-month supply of homes on the market in February – compared with 14.3 months the last two Februarys.
Columbia had a 12.4-month supply, down from 13.9 months a year earlier.
